Title: SLEP and STUN
Post by: Vile on Jan 26, 2007, 09:55 AM
Something needs to be done with these two because 100% stun lock should never happen. Obviously they need to stay in the game because there is very little reason to play a mage, but with spellmod they become very deadly.

Some ideas:

1. Make slep/stun so much mana to cast, it can only be cast once with a full mana pool.
2. Put a cooldown on them so they can only be cast once every three rounds
3. Make then give +mres +dodge +ac so when slept/stunned, it's easier to resist the next one and less damage is taken

I think part of the problem is that direct resists just arent effective enough.

34 Successful casts, 7 resists vs 108 MR. This is a small sample, but it's indicative of MR needing to scale better in favor of the resister in order to be balanced.

With 108 MR the resist rate should have been somewhere in the 25% range for a cleric.  However if you do the math, 41 total cast would only mean 10 resisted rather than 7 with that MR.  If the total cast was only 34 then it was pretty dead on the money, it should have resisted 8.

I do agree however that something should be done to prevent chain slep/stun.

Can you implement something like diminishing returns like in WoW?

Say a stun lasts 1 round, next one will last 0.5, than 0.25 than 0 until you aren't stunned for say 3 rounds. You could still time it to get 3 stuns off and prevent 3 rounds of combat.

I get that it's probably resisting as much as you wanted it to when it was made. The real point is that it isn't enough.

Magic resist aside though, something needs to be put in to prevent chain casting of 100% confusion spells by monsters or players. Something as simple as automatically resisting the next cast of the spell if the stun/sleep spell is already on you would work great. This shouldn't include confusion spells that are under the 100 value.

So are we fixing these or just leaving them as is?

I think just making the spells easier to resist would solve most of the problems.

Also, lets be honest, most of the people dont have a clue how to use a mage anyways, so tho I suspect there's gunna be like 10 mages at the start of next reset, none of them will stay a mage.

At 150 mr, you should resist like 50% of casts, and a witchie should resist 75% min.

And scale that down to 50 resist like 10%? 5%?

But I agree something should be done. But alot of the problem is most people dont really add to willpower, and are naked to a caster....

Don't make them easier to resist, make them harder to cast, I mean, these should fail 1/3 times for example, or you're pretty much cornered into a role where you slep/stun and let whoever take them out, making the PvP quite 1D and boring, without any chance of failure,

Yeah increase mana on slep/stun, make them twice as hard to cast, and easier to resist,

What we REALLY need is "diminishing returns" but that would be a cunt to program...so the second slep would be harder than the first to land, the third virtually impossible, and the fourth completely impossible, until say the 5-round diminishing return period is over.. or slep/stun could just increase MR to the point where it'd be difficult to re-cast it, or any spell, for that matter... fighting a mage 1v1 isnt exactly a fair fight unless you're a witchy.
