Buying Lives
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:55:30 am »
How about the following rule for lives:  lives cost level^2 platinum.

So at lvl 1, it costs 1 plat for 1 life.  At lvl 10, it costs 100plat=1  runic per life.  At lvl 50, 2500 platinum= 25 runic per life.  Will give money some use in this game.  Its probably too late to make this an ingame feature, but I think you could administer it.

If there was a currently available automated system for this I would say its a good idea for the current restart. At least from the perspective of removing the overflow of money from the game. However I think it would be a bad idea to have it administered manually. Stick a copy of it in the idea forum though.

There is no automation for buying lives in place.  It has to be done manually at present.

If you dont mind administering it Gardner, I think that it will happen rare enough that it wont be too big of a hassle, especially in the begining, when money is real valuable.   Also, whoever said they want unlimited pvp is an idiot,  there is no point in a lvl 50 character 1 rounding a lvl 20 one.  10 levels is more than flexible enough, as it means that you can attack someone who has roughly 4 times as much experience as you do.

If lives end up being given out, I think that charging money for them would be interesting, but shouldn't be too expensive. 1 runic per life is more than enough. Overcharging would penalize people who don't hoard money.

Pvp should be unlimited level range.
No dupes.
As such, hangup penalties should just be disabled. Besides, till a better method is figured out for the mechanic, it's being exploited by everyone on the pvp realm anyways.
Set ganghouse exp higher. It's likely we'll have a very similar game compared to before this reset. Something like 100-300 million for a ganghouse makes more sense in a realm of this style, where there might be 10 , 15, or more people contributing to the total.

I'd also be open to other unconventional settings:
Double limited items -  This might be particularly attractive at the reset when there are hordes of people around.
Gardner's automated alignment bot (as in PVE realm)

I really like Pent and Gard's idea about scaling cost for lives. I much prefer a level-based scale to a straight experience based one, simply because in an exp based setup, high chart combos would have to pay through the teeth at a much lower level as compared to a very low chart combo.

This is a great great idea by pent. fantastic, but i think it should be halved.

lvl 10 should be less then 50 plat (as in, i usually dont see a runic until after lvl 15) and being 12.5 runic at level 50.
(which is still, pretty hefty, considering you dont max lvl till 75)

Maybe it should be a different type of scaleable multiplier.
Like your level x your tens value.
Eveything before that should be just 1 plat a life (as anything under lvl 10 1 plat is hard to come by period, and you cant even start your first quest until lvl 10)

If your lvl 10 it should be "1p per lvl x 1"
if your lvl 20 it should be "2p per lvl x 2"
etc.

Ill write up a small chart explaining.
(The multiplier scale is #plat X Level X tens) <where: #plat = tens>
lvl
1-9      = NO MULTIPLIER:  1 plat per life.
10-19   = 1pXlvlX1 (@ lvl 10 =   10p,per life, max-  19p @ lvl 19)
20-29   = 2pXlvlX2 (@ lvl 20 =   40p,per life, max- 116p @ lvl 29)
30-39   = 3pXlvlX3 (@ lvl 30 =  270p,per life, max- 351p @ lvl 39)
40-49   = 4pXlvlX4 (@ lvl 40 =  640p,per life, max- 784p @ lvl 49)
50-59   = 5pXlvlX5 (@ lvl 50 = 1250p,per life, max-1475p @ lvl 59)
60-69   = 6pXlvlX6 (@ lvl 60 = 2160p,per life, max-2484p @ lvl 69)
70-75   = 7pxlvlx7 (@ lvl 70 = 3430p,per life, max-3675p @ lvl 75)

Personally, I think this is a very favorable chart. And its only 1 multiplier after lvl 9.

Level 50 is right about Half* of pent's suggestion which is what i favor.

bout 1 runic through 20's, 3 runic through 30's. 6-7 runic through 40's.

This is a favorabe multipier I think.

I think it would be better to start a seperate thread in the ideas section about buying lives.  This isn't something we'll be able to implement prior to the boards coming back online.

I agree that 1 runic at lvl 10 is very expensive, but you are forgetting the main point here:  noone needs lives at lvl 10 anyways, since it takes less than 12 hours of bland scripting to level 11.  Secondly, at the higher levels, we want this to be expensive.  Anyone can just carry back 3-4 runic worth of gold from orc barracks or deurgers, or million other places which had been scripted.
It doesnt matter if noone (in your opinion) NEED lives at that level, the idea is to have the option there for every player at every level at a fair price. It's not fair to just declare "you don't need it". I have had plenty of low level PVP battles.

And second, how is 15 runic a life through lvl 50-59, 24 runic a life after 60 and 36 runic a life into level 70's, NOT expensive enough?

You have to realize pent, that NOT EVERY CHAR walks into the game with a hoard of dupes, i mean, friends, that they can rely on for boss kills. Some people join & play the game and make a gang and dont have the means to fight other gangs JUST to get plat from storm mountain or kill big bosses reguarly to stack cash.

The price's are very fair IMHO. Considering i was a lvl 62 warlock, and I barely had 20 runic in the bank. At level 62, at those prices, IF i was a SOLO player, and had a GANG hunting me, I woud have NO means to "script for cash" when people are trying to kill me.

considering at level 62, 24 runic is a life, i couldent even have afforded 1 if i wanted.

I didnt have any dupes in this game, so take your garbage elsewhere.  If you didnt have enough money in the previous run, its only because you are totally retarded and understand nothing about how the game works.  I bet there were dozens of runics just sitting in duergers, you simply never bothered to get them.

You dont have to script for cash,  you can go to any places where people have scripted, and take the cash that is already hidden on the floor.   I never scripted storm mountain with my paly, but i had over 100 runic in cash, and could get another 200-300 if i needed.   Also, you dont really get cash from killing bosses either.  Though after 2 months on any realm, you can go to the room of any boss that drops chests and take stuff to sell at jorah and make plenty of cash.

The whole point of making lives expensive is that it takes money out of the system which will make the money more valuable.  As it is currently, money in mud is a joke after 2 months tops.

Well, The rumors that went around (and I firmly believe this) are everyone knows TTG is a bunch of IRL Aussies and thats cool or whatever, but they are supposedly system-linked directly to each other, and can access  each other's
megas at any time, Like I'm not gonna drop any names but I know of 2 dupes already....so call me crazy but there's no real way to prove it so we can't throw allegations out there. Same as please don't start calling anyone else dupers, because I think the ENTIRE realm outside "The Top Gang" could point fingers at you guys and list 100 reasons why they think they are the ones with two chars or more, But anyways that doesn't matter, I could care less about camping 4 alts above Earthen Tomb, but whatever, alas I digress. I vote for floor sweeps daily, no stashing shit, Fuck you and your spare gear....go buy some shit...Pent listed 10 ways to make cash. (heh, I know this is gonna bite me in the ass)

Personally I always hated the buying lives thing in MMUD.  But with the correct pricing it doesnt bother me that much.

I'd like to see some sorrt of in game explanation for it however.  Maybe only unlocking the ability to do so after completing a quest?  The class spirits in the crypt could easily be used to initiate such a quest.

I''ve never really been a fan of the level maximum on the crypt the area could easily be made into a decent scripting area through the mid teens with little effort.

But even without removing that level maximum, you could create a truely challenging quest that would be restricted to level 10 characters.
